Public Education Events

The HKMA launched a financial education board game “$mart Money Management 321” in July 2023. Primary school students can learn about different payment methods, concepts on money management, fintech and cybersecurity in an engaging way via a simulation setting.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority organized an online parenting and educational campaign in December 2020, which aimed at helping kindergarten (K1 – K3) and junior primary school students (P1 – P2) to learn basic money management concepts, banking and payment services. The campaign was successfully concluded and well received with more than 1,500 entries for the colouring & drawing competition. To reach out to the community and raise public awareness of the HKMA’s work, the HKMA organises public education seminars for secondary school students and teachers every year. Topics covered in the seminars include the Linked Exchange Rate System, Hong Kong banknotes, banking stability, etc.

The HKMA Information Centre, consisting of an exhibition area and a library, is an important resource for introducing the work of the HKMA to the community and promoting public awareness of monetary and banking matters.

The Hong Kong Financial Literacy Championship 2024 is organised by Hong Kong Economic Journal Education, co-organised by the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, supported by Hong Kong Education City, partnered with St. James’ Settlement and sponsored by Visa. The Championship targets to help secondary school students keep abreast of the development of innovation, fintech and artificial intelligence (AI), equip them with crucial financial skills and values, and develop entrepreneur and innovation spirit, so as to unlock their potential of being future talents for the financial industry.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority collaborated with the Child Education Centre for Teaching and Learning of the Department of Childcare, Elderly and Community Services of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin) to launch the Kiddie-Family Moneyland education programme as pre-school education. The objectives of the programme are to disseminate the “proper and responsible” money management value to the pre-school institutions and nurture the children with proper money management concept and attitude. The programme aims to establish a comprehensive money management concept among the children and the families, and set a solid foundation for the next generation of young people.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has launched the Faster Payment System (FPS) on 17 September 2018. It enables the public to make instant cross-bank/e-wallet funds transfers anytime, anywhere with the use of mobile number or email address of the payee. The launch of the FPS has promoted innovation in financial technology, and provided greater convenience and new experience of electronic payment to the public."
