    Hong Kong’s third note-issuing bank, the Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China (now Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited) opens a branch in Hong Kong.

    It starts issuing notes, and remains one of the note-issuing banks in Hong Kong today.
