The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks today (5 July) jointly published a leaflet on Hong Kong's Banking System and the Year 2000.
The leaflet seeks to inform the general public about the progress made by banks in Hong Kong in addressing the Year 2000 problem. It also provides answers to some frequently asked questions.
"I hope that this leaflet will increase public awareness of the efforts being made by the banking sector to address the Year 2000 problem and that it will help members of the public to make informed decisions about the Year 2000 issue," said Mr David Carse, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA.
Mr Carse added that, in the parallel with the HKMA's own efforts to increase public awareness of the Year 2000 issue, individual banks were themselves developing and implementing public awareness strategies to address customer concerns on the Year 2000 issue.
A total of 700,000 copies of the bilingual leaflet have been produced. They are available to Authorised Institutions free of charge for distribution to their customers. Leaflets are also available at District Offices and at the Government Publications Centre, Queensway Government Office, Low Block, Ground Floor. The leaflet may also be read on the HKMA's internet website (http://www.info.gov.hk/hkma). For further details, please contact the Resource Centre of the HKMA at 2878 8222.
