Fraudulent email purporting to be related to Bank of East Asia, Limited

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public in Hong Kong to fraudulent emails sent out from the email address: onlineservice@hkbea.com. The emails ask customers of The Bank of East Asia, Limited (BEA) to provide their personal particulars and account information. BEA has clarified that the Bank has no connection with the fraudulent emails.

BEA has reported the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has received fraudulent emails of this kind, or has replied to the emails and provided his or her personal information is advised to contact any local Police Station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

Members of the public should be alert to the possibility of similar fraudulent emails and should always exercise care in giving out personal or account information.
