2026 Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit

On 2-4 November, the HKMA is hosting the fifth edition of the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit. This year’s Summit will convene approximately 280 global financial leaders in Hong Kong, including around 120 group chairpersons and CEOs who see this as a good opportunity to foster high-level dialogues and deepen ties across the global financial community.

Since the inaugural edition that marked Hong Kong’s recovery from Covid, the global financial markets have undergone multiple shockwaves and tectonic shifts brought by the relentless advancement of technology.  Regional military conflicts that have profound implications for the world economy.  Trade policy and security considerations that have led to geoeconomic fragmentation and ushered in major realignment of global supply chains.  Blockchain-based technology that has the potential to rewrite the global financial plumbing and delivery of financial services.  Continued proliferation of non-bank financial intermediation that presents a more complex mix of benefits and risks.   Increasing concerns about inflation, mounting fiscal debt situations in major economies, and cyber risks.  A very long list indeed.

Yet the one thing that brings about the most impactful and enduring changes, I would argue, is AI – investments and their financial sustainability, winners and losers across different industrial sectors, implications for productivity, labour market, inflation, and interest rates, just to name a few of the possible uncertainties and risks in the financial markets.

Amidst this multitude of risks and challenges, the seemingly resilient or even exuberant nature of the financial markets is intriguing.  Are these signs that the current playbook is good enough for us to keep going?  Are risks and vulnerabilities already building up and waiting for a tipping point?  Should we be less complacent and seriously examine the possible cracks, known and unknown, and rethink whether our playbook needs a major update to live in a world where risk is a constant and resilience a necessity that cannot be taken for granted? These gazillion-dollar questions underlie this year’s theme “Rethinking the Playbook”.

The three-day programme will commence with a welcome dinner on the evening of 2 November, followed by the main summit on 3 November.  The final day will feature a “Conversations with Global Investors” forum, co-hosted by the HKMA, the Securities and Futures Commission, and the Hong Kong Academy of Finance.

Over these three days, financial leaders will discuss key macroeconomic trends, financial market shifts, and technological advances that are shaping emerging opportunities and risks across various sectors, asset classes, and geographies.

The leaders will also experience first-hand how Hong Kong has been re-thinking its playbook to transform its economy through innovation and technology, and to stay competitive and forward-looking as an international financial centre.   We keep consolidating our strengths while continuing to push the frontiers that include the world’s leading offshore RMB hub with ever-expanding depth and reach, a more vibrant fixed income market, an enabling and resilient digital assets and payments ecosystem, and new opportunities in gold and commodities business.

Preparations are well underway, and we look forward to welcoming both returning friends and new guests to Hong Kong as we collectively shape the new playbook for the financial world.
