Green and Sustainable Banking Events

The 2025 Green Fintech Competition and the 2025 Green Fintech Symposium were co-hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, with support from the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and Invest Hong Kong.

2025 Green Fintech Competition

The Competition was launched on 9 May 2025. It aimed to foster collaboration between the financial and technology sectors, build capacity for harnessing green fintech, and attract green fintech firms to expand their presence in Hong Kong. The Competition focused on five themes:

  1. Sustainable supply chain and small and medium-sized enterprises;
  2. Accelerating climate risk modelling and analytics;
  3. Carbon market analytics and technology;
  4. Sustainable investing; and
  5. Sustainable banking and financing products.

The Competition attracted over 140 entries from 26 jurisdictions, marking an increase of over 60% from the inaugural event in 2023. The winners were invited to present their solutions at the 2025 Green Fintech Symposium.

2025 Green Fintech Symposium

The Symposium was held on 12 September 2025 and attracted nearly 500 in-person and online participants from banks, investment firms, corporates, technology firms, regulatory authorities, and academia to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in green fintech. Featuring a fireside chat and panel discussions, the Symposium brought together experts from the financial, technology, and public sectors to discuss topics including the application of artificial intelligence and big data in green fintech, the importance of innovation to Asia’s low-carbon transition, and the commercialisation of green fintech solutions.

2023 Green Fintech Competition


The Green Fintech Competition was launched in September 2023 to promote the adoption of green fintech solutions in the Hong Kong banking industry. Participants had to submit market-ready solutions to tackle problem statements relevant to any of the following themes: Net-zero Transition or Transition Planning, Climate Risk Management, Green and Sustainable Finance, and Sustainability or Climate-related Disclosure and Reporting. 87 submissions from 69 companies spanning 19 jurisdictions were received.

2023 Green Fintech Competition Summary Report

2023 Green and Sustainable Banking Conference

The Green and Sustainable Banking Conference was held on 11 December 2023, with the objective of providing a platform for the banking sector and the technology sector to discuss the role of low-carbon technology and green fintech in the net-zero transition in Hong Kong and the Mainland. The event brought together around 400 participants from banks, technology firms, regulatory authorities and the academia. The Award Presentation Ceremony of the Green Fintech Competition was held at the conference.
