Ph.D. Fellowship Programme

About the Programme

The Research Department at the HKMA invites applications from students who are currently enrolled in a Ph.D. programme in economics, finance or related fields. The Ph.D. Fellowship programme is intended for students with a strong research interest in macroeconomic analysis, monetary policy transmission, financial market or financial stability issues.

Duties
  • Ph.D. fellows will be integrated into the intellectual life of the Research Department and will be expected to:
    • Conduct independent research: advance their dissertation research with the aim of producing a high-quality working paper
    • Deliver a research seminar: present their research to department staff toward the end of the fellowship programme
    • Contribute to departmental work: participate in research discussions, contribute to assigned projects

Requirements
  • Ph.D. candidates in economics, finance or related fields. The candidates should have completed field exams and are in the dissertation stage of their Ph.D., preferably in their final year
  • Excellent quantitative skills with experience in conducting research in relevant fields
  • Good interpersonal skills and interest in conducting policy-relevant research
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese

Terms and Conditions
  • Successful candidates will be invited to work at the HKMA Research Department for a period ranging from three to six months.
  • The HKMA provides a monthly stipend and medical insurance coverage during the Fellowship Programme.
  • Fellows are responsible for accommodation, travel and relocation expenses on their own.

  • Please submit your CV, 1-2 letters of recommendation from academic advisor(s) and a research proposal that is no more than 5 pages together with your application.
