Launching ceremony for cross-boundary electronic bill presentment and payment between Hong Kong and Guangdong Province

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Guangzhou Branch of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) jointly hosted the launching ceremony for cross-boundary electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) between Hong Kong and Guangdong province in Guangzhou today to mark the launch of the service. The ceremony was attended by the senior officials of the Guangdong provincial government and the representatives from the commercial banks and corporates in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.

The implementation of cross-boundary EBPP service between Hong Kong and Guangdong province aims to provide an efficient channel for customers in Hong Kong to make bill payments in renminbi to merchants in Guangdong province over internet or mobile banking platforms. It provides flexibility for customers to make bill payment online.

Mr Howard Lee, Senior Executive Director of the HKMA, said, “I am glad to see the implementation of cross-boundary EBPP service between Hong Kong and Guangdong province which provides an additional channel for customers to make bill payments to merchants in Guangdong province. I look forward to strengthening the cooperation with our Guangdong counterparts to bring the cross-boundary financial infrastructures to a new level.”
