Residential Mortgage Survey Results for March 2018

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (“HKMA”) announced the results of the residential mortgage survey for March 2018.

The number of mortgage applications in March increased month-on-month by 22.8% to 13,716.

Mortgage loans approved in March increased by 21.6% compared with February to HK$39.5 billion. Among these, mortgage loans financing primary market transactions increased by 40.7% to HK$7.6 billion and those financing secondary market transactions increased by 10.9% to HK$22.0 billion. Mortgage loans for refinancing increased by 36.4% to HK$9.8 billion.

Mortgage loans drawn down during March increased by 41.2% compared with February to HK$29.8 billion.

The ratio of new mortgage loans priced with reference to HIBOR decreased from 68.4% in February to 50.3% in March. The ratio of new mortgage loans priced at fixed rates increased from 27.6% in February to 45.4% in March.

The outstanding value of mortgage loans increased month-on-month by 0.8% to HK$1,228.4 billion at end-March.

The mortgage delinquency ratio remained unchanged at 0.02% and the rescheduled loan ratio remained unchanged at nearly 0%.
