HKMA Quarterly Bulletin (September 2003 Issue)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (Monday) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains feature articles on:

  • The Profitability of the Banking Sector in Hong Kong - analysing the evolution of profitability in Hong Kong's banking sector
  • Factors Influencing the Share of Hong Kong Dollar Deposits in Total Deposits - examining factors that explain recent decline in the ratio of Hong Kong dollar deposits to total deposits
  • The Causes of Inflation and Deflation in Mainland China - studying inflation dynamics on the Mainland in recent years
  • Commercial Credit Reference Agency to be Operational in 2004 - describing the main features of the scheme and the HKMA's supervisory guidelines
  • Basel II: Implications for Hong Kong - looking at the risk management aspects of Basel II and examining the implications for our banking industry
  • New Hong Kong Banknotes - explaining the security features for the new HK$100 and HK$500 banknotes.

In addition, the Bulletin carries a Supervisor's Memo on Securities-Related Activities of Authorized Institutions, which provides practical guidance on the Securities and Futures Ordinance. The Bulletin also contains regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the second quarter of 2003.
