HKMA Quarterly Bulletin (February 2002 Issue)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (Thursday) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains feature articles on:

  • Hong Kong Dollar Debt Market Developments in 2001 - reviewing Hong Kong dollar debt issuance in 2001 and measures implemented for promoting debt market development.
  • Hong Kong's External Claims and Liabilities vis-a-vis Mainland China - looking into the factors behind the movements in external claims and liabilities, and assessing their implications.
  • Banking (Amendment) Ordinance 2001 - setting out the rationale behind the enactment of the Ordinance and outlining the amendments introduced.

The Bulletin also carries a Supervisor's Memo on Systems of Control for the Appointment of Managers, and regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the fourth quarter of 2001.

With effect from this issue, the article "Developments in the Banking Sector" has introduced a new bank grouping "retail banks", which will be more representative of "mainstream banking" trends in Hong Kong and will capture a greater percentage of domestic lending and deposits.

The Quarterly Bulletin is on sale at the Government Publications Centre. It may also be ordered direct from the HKMA at HK$100 per copy. The full text of the Quarterly Bulletin is available on the HKMA website http://www.info.gov.hk/hkma/eng/public/index.htm.
