HKMA Quarterly Bulletin (August 2001 Issue)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (Thursday) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains articles on:

  • Mexico's and Asia's Recoveries Compared - assessing the prospects of Asian crisis economies for sustained economic recovery by drawing upon the experience of Mexico after the Tequila crisis.
  • The New Basel Capital Accord - highlighting the major changes contained in the New Capital Accord proposed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and discussing potential impact on local banks and the preliminary approach in Hong Kong.
  • Challenges for Exchange Rate Policy - discussing the adjustment process under different monetary regimes and, in particular, the circumstances in which a fixed exchange rate may be an appropriate monetary anchor.

The Bulletin also carries regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the second quarter of 2001.

The Quarterly Bulletin is on sale at the Government Publications Centre. It may also be ordered direct from the HKMA at HK$100 per copy. The full text of the Quarterly Bulletin is available on the HKMA website.
