The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) will this summer present its second exhibition, Money in Hong Kong 2001. This will be the major community event of the HKMA for this year.
The Exhibition will be held at three different locations, running from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily during the following periods:
- New Town Plaza, Sha Tin
20-22 July (Friday to Sunday)- Pacific Place, Admiralty
27-29 July (Friday to Sunday)- Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill
3-5 August (Friday to Sunday)
"Our aim in presenting this exhibition is to promote a greater understanding of how money works in Hong Kong, and in particular to raise awareness of security features on banknotes," said Mr Joseph Yam, Chief Executive of the HKMA.
The Exhibition will feature:
- Money and Security - a survey of security features of banknotes and coins, with real exhibits of real and counterfeit notes and coins
- Banking and Competition - latest developments in banking in Hong Kong
- Linked Exchange Rate - the linked exchange rate and currency board system
- Exchange Fund - its investment objectives and strategy
- Payment Systems - how Hong Kong's interbank payment system and the US dollar clearing system operate
A radio quiz (Roland's Choice, RTHK 2, 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, 2 July to 20 July) is being held during the lead-up to the exhibition. Prizes will be presented to the radio quiz winners during the opening event of the exhibition to be held at 2:30 p.m. on 21 July (Saturday).
The exhibition will also be accompanied by demonstrations on identifying counterfeit banknotes conducted by the Commercial Crime Bureau which will be held on every Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the exhibition.
