HKMA Quarterly Bulletin (May 2001 Issue)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (Thursday) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains articles on:

  • Corporate restructuring in Hong Kong in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis - assessing how Hong Kong's structural adjustments compare with those of its Asian neighbours through an examination of corporate restructuring and a comparative analysis of productivity changes.
  • The property market and the macro-economy - examining the impact of the weak property market in the wake of the Asian financial crisis on other parts of the economy.
  • Deregulation of Interest Rate Rules - explaining the considerations behind the decision that the final phase of interest rate deregulation should take place as scheduled on 3 July 2001.

The Bulletin also carries regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the first quarter of 2001. Starting from this issue, the article "Developments in the Banking Sector" has been expanded with the addition of a substantial number of trend-illustrating charts, a new item on China exposures, data on consolidated capital adequacy ratio for all locally incorporated authorized institutions, and a table of key performance indicators of the banking sector.

The Quarterly Bulletin is on sale at the Government Publications Centre. It may also be ordered direct from the HKMA at HK$100 per copy. The full text of the Quarterly Bulletin is available on the HKMA website.
