HKMA Quarterly Bulletin (February 2001 Issue)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (Wednesday) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains articles on:

  • Hong Kong Dollar Debt Market Developments in 2000 - reviewing Hong Kong dollar debt securities issuance in 2000 and identifying impediments to bond market development in Hong Kong.
  • Balance of Payments Statistics: Examining Some Received Wisdom - arguing that a more meaningful interpretation of the statistics should take into account other variables than just the overall balance of payments position.
  • Implementation of the US Dollar Clearing System in Hong Kong - outlining the history of the US dollar clearing system and drawing attention to some improvements to be introduced in 2001.
  • Financial Disclosure for Authorized Institutions - highlighting salient features of the updates incorporated into the Guideline on Financial Disclosure by Locally Incorporated Authorized Institutions in December 2000.

The Bulletin also carries a Supervisor's Memo explaining the Guideline on Corporate Governance of Locally Incorporated Authorized Institutions and the Amendment to the Prevention of Money Laundering Guideline, in addition to the regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the last quarter of 2000.

The Quarterly Bulletin, which is on sale at the Government Publications Centre, may also be ordered direct from the HKMA at HK$100 per copy. The full text of the Quarterly Bulletin is available on the HKMA website ( http://www.info.gov.hk/hkma/eng/public/qb200102/toc_index.htm).
