HKMA's 1997 Annual Report has won Gold Award

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has won the Gold Award for its 1997 Annual Report.

In a prize presentation ceremony today (Friday), the HKMA was awarded the top honour in the "Non-Profit Making and Charitable Organizations" category in the Best Annual Reports Award competition.

The competition is organised annually by the Hong Kong Management Association.

Commenting on the award, Mr Joseph Yam, Chief Executive of the HKMA, said, "the HKMA is committed to promoting transparency and accountability in its operations."

"The Annual Report is one of the many channels for the HKMA to communicate with the public. There is an abundance of information published in the HKMA's regular series of monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and in the ad hoc publications on specific monetary and banking issues," said Mr Yam.

"We are honoured to have been conferred the Gold Award by the Hong Kong Management Association and we will endeavour to promote a better general understanding of monetary and banking issues in Hong Kong," added Mr Yam.

In making their judgement, the panel of judges consider general presentation, highlights page, general presentation of financial statements, explanatory notes to financial statements, reference to employee relations, purpose and description of activities and performance, future intentions, readability and promptness of reporting.

The HKMA's Annual Reports received the Honourable Mention Awards from the Association in both 1996 and 1997.
