1997 Commemorative Coin Sets Sold Out

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced this afternoon that the 1997 Commemorative Brilliant Uncirculated Coin Sets available for sale at the Hong Kong Jockey Club have all been sold out today (27 June).

A total of 200,000 sets were sold today. This compares with 35,000 sets sold in 1993 to commemorate the issue of bauhinia design coins.

The Brilliant Uncirculated coin set is issued by the HKMA on behalf of the Government to mark the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 1 July 1997. The coin set is sold for HK$160 each. Proceeds from the sale of the coin sets after deducting the cost of issue will be used to fund selected projects for the benefit of the community.
