The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is charged with the responsibility for maintaining the stability and integrity of the monetary and financial systems of Hong Kong.  There is now an excellent opportunity for eligible candidates to apply for the following position:

Manager (Financial Stability Surveillance) – Quantitative Research

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct surveillance of financial stability risks facing the banking system and financial markets, with particular focus on OTC derivatives, non-bank financial institutions and cross-market vulnerabilities
  • Conduct quantitative analysis using HKTR, GDR and other granular and market datasets to identify leverage, concentration, interconnectedness, liquidity and counterparty risks
  • Analyse OTC derivatives positions and market developments across major asset classes, and highlight developments and potential vulnerabilities warranting senior management attention.
  • Apply R, Python and related analytical tools to support surveillance, thematic studies and policy-relevant investigations
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data, market intelligence and external information in producing presentations, reports and briefing materials
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including banks, market participants, local and overseas regulators and international organisations, on data requirements, market developments and financial stability issues

 

Requirements

 

  • University or postgraduate degree in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, data science or related fields
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in financial markets, banking, investment, risk management, quantitative research, prudential or regulatory analysis, or related areas
  • Solid product knowledge of OTC derivatives, particularly options, swaps and forwards, and good understanding of leverage, collateral, margin and counterparty exposures
  • Strong quantitative and programming skills, with proficiency in R and Python. Knowledge of Bloomberg Terminal and Tableau would be an advantage
  • Experience in analysing granular, trade repository, regulatory or transaction-level data, or comparable large-scale financial datasets, would be an advantage
  • CFA, FRM or equivalent professional qualification would be an advantage
  • Self-motivated team player with strong analytical, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese

  • Appointment will be made on fixed contract terms
  • A competitive remuneration package will be offered.  There is flexibility to take account of additional experience and qualifications
