The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is charged with the responsibility for maintaining the stability and integrity of the monetary and financial systems of Hong Kong.  There is now an excellent opportunity for eligible candidates to apply for the following position:

Ph.D. Fellowship Programme


The Ph.D. Fellowship programme is intended for students with a strong research interest in macroeconomic analysis, monetary policy transmission, financial market or financial stability issues. Ph.D. fellows will be integrated into the intellectual life of the Research Department.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct independent research: advance dissertation research with the aim of producing a high-quality working paper
  • Deliver a research seminar: present research to department staff toward the end of the fellowship programme
  • Contribute to departmental work: participate in research discussions, and perform other projects as assigned

 

Requirements

 

  • Ph.D. candidates in economics, finance or related fields
  • Completed field exams and are in the dissertation stage of Ph.D., preferably in final year
  • Excellent quantitative skills with experience in conducting research in relevant fields
  • Good interpersonal skills and interest in conducting policy-relevant research
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese

 

Conditions of service

 

  • Successful candidates will work for a period ranging from three to six months
  • A monthly stipend and medical insurance coverage during the Fellowship Programme will be offered
  • Fellows are responsible for accommodation, travel and relocation expenses on their own

Copies of transcripts together with a full résumé, including 1-2 letters of recommendation from academic advisor(s) and a research proposal that is no more than 5 pages together with your application.  Please mark your correspondence address and the position applied for on the envelope.

Completed application should reach the HKMA, via the designated submission channel, by 28 March 2026.  Applicants may wish to submit their applications in advance of the deadline to allow for any unexpected delays, e.g. with internet traffic, including file size restrictions and system maintenance downtime.  Those not contacted by the HKMA within three months from the closing date for applications should consider their applications filed for future reference.
