Christmas Quiz 2007

As far as monetary and financial stability is concerned, 2007 has been an eventful year. Readers may have noticed some terms that appeared repeatedly in newspapers or this column in the past year: sub-prime, inflation, carry trades, to name a few.

The Christmas Quiz this year is a crossword puzzle based on some of the terms that I have used in the Viewpoint columns during 2007. In order not to spoil the fun, we have not included those terms that are too technical to explain in a sentence or two. But all the answers can be found in the previous Viewpoint articles, which are available on the HKMA website at www.hkma.gov.hk. We have prepared English and Chinese versions of the crossword. Readers are welcome to try either or both of them.

Please fill in your answers and contact details and press the "submit" button before 5 p.m. on Friday 27 December 2007 (Hong Kong time). You may also send your answers by fax (852) 2509-9159, by post, or even deliver them personally to our Information Centre located on 55/F, Two International Finance Centre. The first three correct entries for each version will each receive a small prize.

Good luck, and a Merry Christmas to all of you!
