Hong Kong’s Latest Foreign Currency Reserve Assets Figures Released

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (Monday) that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$400.0 billion as at the end of April 2017 (end-March 2017: US$395.5 billion) (Annex).

Including unsettled foreign exchange contracts, the foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong at the end of April 2017 amounted to US$391.6 billion (end-March 2017: US$386.9 billion).

The total foreign currency reserve assets of US$400.0 billion represent over seven times the currency in circulation or about 47% of Hong Kong dollar M3.
