Winners of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies Financial Literacy Championship meet the HKMA Chief Executive

A group of secondary school students, who are the winners of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies Financial Literacy Championship, visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today and met Mr Norman Chan, Chief Executive of the HKMA, to learn more about the work of the HKMA as well as the smart tips on using banking services.

During the “Meet the HKMA Chief Executive” session, Mr Chan shared with the students the importance of maintaining financial stability in Hong Kong and HKMA’s role in it, and showcased Hong Kong rapid development as a global hub for offshore RMB business over the past few years.  Mr Chan also answered questions from the students about his daily work life, various aspects of the HKMA’s work and the status of Hong Kong as an international financial centre.

Prior to meeting Mr Chan, the students also joined a guided tour at the HKMA Information Centre.  The tour enriched their understanding of the work of the HKMA, development of money and banking in Hong Kong and the security features of banknotes.

The opportunity to join “Meet the HKMA Chief Executive” session is one of the prizes of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies Financial Literacy Championship.  The Championship is one of the initiatives of the HKMA’s Consumer Education Programme, which promotes “smart and responsible” use of banking services to the public.

The Championship is an online quiz competition organised by iknow of the Hong Kong Economic Journal Company Limited and Hong Kong Education City, in collaboration with Education Bureau and the HKMA and with the support of Visa, and is designed to enhance financial literacy among secondary school students and help them grasp the importance of responsible financial management.
