Granting of banking licence to Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (31 May 2013) that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited (SMTB) under the Banking Ordinance.  The granting of this banking licence takes effect today (31 May 2013).

SMTB is incorporated in Japan.  It is wholly owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings Inc.

After the granting of a banking licence to SMTB, the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong is 156.
