Granting of banking licence to China Everbright Bank Co., Ltd.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (28 December 2012) that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to China Everbright Bank Co., Ltd. (CEB) under the Banking Ordinance.  The granting of this banking licence takes effect today (28 December 2012).

CEB is incorporated in the People’s Republic of China.  According to the July 2012 issue of The Banker, CEB is the 11th largest bank in the Mainland and 83rd largest bank in the world in terms of Tier-1 capital.

After the granting of a banking licence to CEB, the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong has increased to 155.
