Granting of banking licence to Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild SA

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (Tuesday) that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild SA (BPER) under the Banking Ordinance.  The granting of this banking licence took effect on 16 September 2011.

BPER is incorporated in Switzerland.  According to the July 2011 issue of The Banker, BPER is the 21^st largest bank in Switzerland in terms of Tier-1 capital.

After the granting of a banking licence to BPER, the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong has increased to 151.
