Granting of banking licence to Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (Monday) that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (SEB) under the Banking Ordinance. The granting of this banking licence took effect on 29 August 2011.

SEB is incorporated in Sweden. According to the July 2011 issue of The Banker, SEB is the second largest banking group in Sweden in terms of Tier-1 capital.

After the granting of a banking licence to SEB, the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong has increased to 150.
