Fraudulent telephone banking system operated by "Hong Kong Delta Asia Bank 香港匯業銀行" (translated English name)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public in Hong Kong to a telephone number (852 6635 4970) of a fraudulent voice response unit (VRU) claimed to be operated by "Hong Kong Delta Asia Bank 香港匯業銀行" (translated English name). The public should be aware that the alleged "Hong Kong Delta Asia Bank" is not authorized under the Banking Ordinance to carry on banking business or the business of taking deposits in Hong Kong, nor does it have the approval to establish a local representative office.

Anyone who has provided his or her personal information to the VRU or has conducted any financial transactions through the VRU should contact any local Police Station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

An HKMA spokesperson said that members of the public should be alert to the possibility of similar fraudulent VRUs claiming to represent other banks or financial institutions, and should always exercise care in giving out personal or account information.
