Fraud cases relating to lottery claims

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public to recent fraud cases where victims were informed by fraudsters that they have won a lottery and would be paid a large sum of money. They were told to deposit an advance fee into a designated bank account before the lottery money would be remitted from the "Hong Kong & Macau Monetary Authority".

The HKMA wishes to inform the public that the "Hong Kong & Macau Monetary Authority" is a fictitious entity. The HKMA has already reported the cases to the Hong Kong Police Force for investigation.

Anyone who receives fraudulent letters of this kind is advised to contact the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force (telephone number: 2860 5012).
