Annual General Meeting of the Treasury Markets Association

The Treasury Markets Association (TMA) held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) today (Monday). At the meeting, Chairman of the Executive Board and Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Mr Choi Yiu-kwan reported that the TMA made significant progress in the past year to promote the professionalism and competitiveness of the treasury markets in Hong Kong.

The TMA has established a broad membership base: more than 70 institutional members including banks, investment banks, money brokers, fund management houses, insurance companies, and over 2,000 individual members who are mostly working in various segments of the treasury markets such as foreign exchange, bonds or derivatives.

"The strong membership has provided a solid foundation for the TMA to spearhead its initiatives in developing the treasury markets and products, enhancing the professionalism of market practitioners, and promoting the profile of Hong Kong as a regional hub for treasury businesses," said Mr Choi.

Chief Executive of the HKMA Mr Joseph Yam will continue to serve as the Honorary President of the Council while Mr Choi will continue to serve as the Chairman of the Executive Board. The AGM elected Mr Water Cheung, Mr Lawrence Lam and Mr Philip Lau as new Board Members. The Executive Board meeting held immediately after the AGM appointed Mr Lim Sim Seng and Mr Eiichi Yoshikawa as new Council Members. The composition of the Executive Board and the Council of the TMA is annexed.

The TMA published its Annual Report for 2006 today. It reviews the activities and achievements of the Association during the year. The Report is available on the TMA website www.tma.org.hk.
