The Launch of New Membership Regime of ACI - The Financial Markets Association of Hong Kong

The Treasury Markets Forum of Hong Kong (TMF) and ACI - The Financial Markets Association of Hong Kong (ACIHK) today (Thursday) jointly announced the launch of the new membership regime of the ACIHK and new educational programmes. The TMF consists of representatives from ACIHK and other industry associations.

The introduction of the new regime aims to raise the professionalism of market practitioners, which is important against the backdrop of increasing complexity and sophistication of the financial markets. New members must obtain the requisite professional qualifications in order to be eligible for ACIHK membership, and continuous professional training is required for the annual renewal of membership.

A grandfathering scheme is available until the end of the year for market practitioners who fulfill certain requirements. The ACIHK welcomes practitioners from various treasury markets, including those engaged in foreign exchange and money market, bond market and derivative market activities, to join as members.

In connection with the new accreditation programme of the ACIHK, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will launch new certificate programes in dealing, settlement, and debt securities in the fourth quarter of 2004.

Mr Norman Chan, the Chairman of the TMF, said, "the launch of the new membership regime and educational programmes by the ACIHK marks an important milestone in the efforts to raise the professionalism of treasury market practitioners, which is crucial for Hong Kong in maintaining its competitiveness as an international financial centre."

"Our hope is that the ACIHK membership will become a benchmark of excellence - a qualification sought after by market professionals and preferred by the financial institutions in Hong Kong," Mr Horace Fan, the President of the ACIHK, said. "I would like to thank the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for offering financial educational programmes."
