Granting of restricted banking licence to HYPO REAL ESTATE BANK INTERNATIONAL

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (Tuesday) that the Monetary Authority has granted a restricted banking licence to HYPO REAL ESTATE BANK INTERNATIONAL ("Hypo") under the Banking Ordinance. This grant of restricted banking licence took effect on 16 August 2004.

Incorporated in Ireland, Hypo has maintained a local representative office in Hong Kong since March 2004.

After the granting of a restricted banking licence to Hypo, the number of restricted licence banks in Hong Kong has increased to 42.
