Revamped HKMA website offers comprehensive financial information

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) launched today (1 May 1997) a completely revamped HKMA website (http://www.info.gov.hk/hkma) carrying more interactive and comprehensive information on the HKMA.

The website contains updated information on the structure, activities and publications of the HKMA. It permits online access to the 1996 HKMA Annual Report released yesterday.

Also included is a new section on the Annual Meetings of the World Bank/International Monetary Fund (IMF) which will be held in Hong Kong on 23-25 September 1997. This section has information on the meeting schedule; how to participate; social and cultural events as well as facilities available at the Convention & Exhibition Centre and its new US$620 million Extension. Such information would be most useful for those planning to come to the Annual Meetings.

The revamped website contains a new statistical table which provides a digest of economic and financial data on Hong Kong. Users seeking more statistical information can access those data provided by relevant government branches through a hyperlink featured on the page. The page is also linked to the International Monetary Fund's Dissemination Standard Bulletin Board which provides the economic and financial statistics of and the methodology employed by 29 economies including Hong Kong.

Other new features include a new section on Hong Kong's monetary arrangements through 1997, video clips of senior executives and extracts from HKMA publications. (The site map and highlights of new features of the website are annexed.)

Mr. Joseph Yam, Chief Executive of the HKMA said, "Since the launch of our website in July 1996, the HKMA has received encouraging responses from net surfers around the world. The HKMA decided to revamp the site in order to provide more information and keep the world posted on the latest development of the monetary and banking systems in Hong Kong."
