Norman Chan, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority welcomes the introduction of cash withdrawal service by the elderly without the need to make purchases

The Hong Kong Association of Banks announced today (24 November) that the banking industry has worked together with EPS Company and a chain convenience store to launch in early March 2018 a pilot scheme that provides cash withdrawal service to the elderly at 34 convenience stores via EPS service without the need to make purchases.

Mr. Norman Chan, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) said, “The HKMA welcomes the introduction of a new initiative by banks and a merchant to allow cash withdrawal by the elderly at convenience stores via EPS service without the need to make purchases.  This initiative enhances the accessibility of cash withdrawal service to the elderly in remote areas.  The pilot launch will cover areas such as Cheung Chau, Lantau Island and Tin Shui Wai, and hopefully the service will be extended to other areas in the future.”
