HKMA “Mobile Coin Collection Kiosk” Design Competition

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today the launch of a “Mobile Coin Collection Kiosk” Design Competition among secondary students in Hong Kong.  Students are invited through their schools to propose an eye-catching exterior design and a befitting name in Chinese and English for the mobile kiosk.

The HKMA will set up mobile coin collection kiosks, as an additional channel outside the banking system, for the public to exchange their coins.  This serves to make the circulation of coins more efficient and would help conserve the environment by reducing the need to mint new coins.  The mobile kiosks, which are converted from large goods vehicles, will be parked at different locations in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories.  After putting their stash of coins into counting machines in the kiosks and confirming the tally of the machine, users can get value of their coins right away by cash or by adding value to "Octopus" cards.

Secondary students are encouraged to participate in this competition and to submit their entries through their schools before the deadline of 16 December 2013.  The winning design will be used, subject to necessary adaptations, to decorate the exterior facets of the mobile kiosks.
