Publicity campaign on the Hong Kong ten-dollar polymer note

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (4 June) the launch of an extensive campaign to promote public awareness of the security features and the handling characteristics of the Hong Kong ten-dollar polymer note, which will be circulated within the next few weeks.

Starting today, leaflets illustrating the design and security features of the note are available to the public from the HKMA Information Centre, major bank branches and district offices. Detailed information can be found on the HKMA website at www.hkma.gov.hk. Members of the public can also make enquiries about the new note via email (polymer_note@hkma.gov.hk) or telephone (2878 8234).

A territory-wide out-reach programme will be launched on 15 June to further promote public awareness of the new note, with student ambassadors visiting major shopping centres to distribute leaflets to retailers. In parallel, exhibition booths will be set up in public housing estates showing the security features and the production of polymer notes. The schedule of the exhibition sites is at the Annex. To assist people with visual impairments, the HKMA has also set up a telephone line (3005 6128) providing taped information on how to distinguish the polymer note.

As part of the publicity campaign, the HKMA has begun organising educational seminars targeting banks, money changers and retailers. The HKMA will continue to conduct regular seminars on Hong Kong banknotes, including the Hong Kong ten-dollar polymer note. Members of the public interested in attending can check the schedule for registration on the HKMA website.
