Fraudulent email purporting to be related to China Merchants Bank Co., Ltd.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public in Hong Kong to fraudulent emails sent out from the following email addresses: 95555@cmbchina.com or 95599@cmbchina.com. The emails ask customers of China Merchants Bank Co., Ltd. (CMB) to provide their personal particulars and account information. China Merchants Bank Co. Ltd., Hong Kong Branch (CMBHK) has clarified that CMB has no connection with the fraudulent emails.

CMBHK has reported the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has received fraudulent emails of this kind, or has replied to the emails and provided his or her personal information is advised to contact any local Police Station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

Members of the public should be alert to the possibility of similar fraudulent emails and should always exercise care in giving out personal or account information.
