Fraudulent telephone banking system purporting to be related to Dah Sing Bank, Limited

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public in Hong Kong to a telephone number (6720 6342) of a fraudulent voice response unit (VRU) which asks customers of Dah Sing Bank, Limited (DSB) to register their account number and the related personal identification number. DSB has issued a press release today (31 July) to clarify that DSB, the Dah Sing Financial Group and its subsidiaries have no connection with the fraudulent VRU.

DSB has reported the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided his or her personal information to the VRU or has conducted any financial transactions through the VRU should contact the DSB customer hotline at 2828 8000 and any local Police Station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

An HKMA spokesman said that members of the public should be alert to the possibility of similar fraudulent VRUs claiming to represent other banks or financial institutions, and should always exercise care in giving out personal or account information.
