Formal Opening of IMF Sub-Office in Hong Kong
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) opened a sub-office in Hong Kong today (11 January 2001). The Managing Director of the IMF, Mr Horst Köhler (2nd from right) officiated the sub-office's opening at a luncheon reception. Mr Liu Tinghuan, Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China (2nd from left), and Mr Joseph Yam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (1st from right), attended the reception as guests of honour. The first Resident Representative of the Hong Kong sub-office is Mr William Lee (1st from left).
The sub-office will function as a subsidiary unit of the IMF Resident Representative Office in Beijing. It will enhance the IMF's surveillance of economic and financial developments in Hong Kong, and help the IMF better understand economic and financial issues in Hong Kong and the region.
